How to Backup/Restore your Thunderbird and Firefox settings and data

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Today I have to reinstall my Vista system. Finally it stated to show so much bugs, it was unable to work like that. The main question for reinstall system was to find good utility to backup and restore Thunderbird and Firefox settings and data. Not a secret that Outlook and IE looses user attention last years – I am also using alternative programs. So Thunderbird and Firefox do not have build-in backup/restore function. Answer was so simple how to solve it. There is a small software – MozBackup.  Official website says:

MozBackup is a simple utility for creating backups of Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Mozilla Sunbird, Flock, SeaMonkey, Mozilla Suite, Spicebird, Songbird and Netscape profiles.

It allows you to backup and restore bookmarks, mail, contacts, history, extensions, cache etc. It’s an easy way to do Firefox backup, Thunderbird backup …

MozBackup is compatible with:

This program is freeware and works on Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista. It’s developed in Czech republic.

Just few minutes ago restored Vista from ASUS restore image and restore settings. Amazing – program restored from backup everything: bookmarks, passwords, even selectfields choises. I highly recommend it to all Firefox/Thunderbird users. You can download it from here: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

No Internet Explorer in Windows – what’s the point?

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

A while ago EU commission sets that Microsoft should remove Internet Explorer from Windows so that the user can decide which browser to use. But if to look at the problem from the different angle? Use that does not have IE could not update download updates for his Windows from update.microsoft.com so he will have to install IE in any case to do that. I have a question – was that really user-friendly decision? I think that either they have to push Microsoft to make update website work for any browser or not to make them remove IE from the package. The first one could be much more reasonable. Imagine the car manufacturer for instance Audi and Air Conditioner Unite producer “Company A” that provides A/c for Audi. Imagine that EU commision will make Audi not to put A/C in their car so that the buyer can choose – may be he would like “Company B” a/c unit in his car. Funny, isn’t it?

BTW here is one interesting document from EU:

http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32001L0113:En:HTML

It says that “for the purposes of this Directive, tomatoes, the edible parts of rhubarb stalks, carrots, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, melons and water-melons are considered to be fruit“.
