SEO An Hour A Day: Small Tasks That Make A Big Difference

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

A lot of work goes into improving a website’s rank on search engines, and most of the tasks that are performed to realize that goal take a lot of time and a lot of energy. Along with those big time consuming tasks, though, there are a few small, quick things that can be done that can go a long way toward getting your site to the top. These tasks are ongoing, and can be accomplished within an hour a day.

All of these tasks actually deal with ‘off the page’ factors, and focus primarily on inbound links and generating traffic. Since that’s the goal of all SEO campaigns, these tasks are a natural fit into any plan to reach it.

One of these ‘hour a day’ tasks is contacting other websites requesting inbound links. In return, there could be some form of payment negotiated or you could return the favor, linking their site from yours. While link swapping can be useful, it should be known that they can have a negative effect if overused. This is thanks to spammers abusing this method of traffic generation in the early days of the Internet. Trading links with a site known by search engines can also have a negative impact on your SEO efforts, but such sites are usually very easy to recognize. As long as you pay attention to who you’re dealing with, this potential pitfall can be easily avoided.

It is also worth mentioning that sites related to your field of business or study linking to your site. As Google and other search engines interpret this as a ‘vote of confidence’ by the site creating the link, the search engines will rank you site that much higher that much faster. Sites that have little relation to yours creating an inbound link is not quite as helpful, though such links cannot hurt your site.

Having your website listed in several directories is also a good idea, as directory links can increase traffic and raise you search engine rank fairly quickly. With directories available on the Web for every subject imaginable today, there is no shortage of potential inbound links you can generate with a little effort an hour a day.

Getting blogs to link to your website is also a task that can be performed briefly each day. This task, like the others mentioned above, can bring rich reward – even more so if the blog regularly covers subjects related to your website.

The performance of these tasks can fit into any schedule, and the benefits such tasks can yield are very much worth the hour you should spend in doing them. Not only are such tasks an efficient use of time (and therefore money), but the continuing positive results can give you the motivation to continue working on your personal site, or make holding your job easier if you are working on a client’s site.

Advantages Of Rank Reporting Software

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Search engine optimization or SEO has become an integral part of modern day business as we move closer and closer to an “Internet culture”. Just like any other business venture you will undoubtedly want it to move your business forward and make it more profitable. Keeping track of your SEO is however quite a time-consuming task, but it must be done to know whether your strategies are working or not. However, there is a way to have your SEO progress checked automatically every month without you having to lift a finger.

Employing software to perform this routine check of looking up where your pages are ranked for you is a time-saving dream come true for many businessmen. Having your SEO progress checks done by automated software is far quicker and more reliable than manually checking it as when human minds are faced with long tedious tasks they are prone to mistakes.

To overcome such issues as the time it takes to manually check the rankings of all your pages and how easily errors can be made, software has been developed by the SEO experts and professional webmasters so that you can check whether or not your SEO strategies are working in the way you want them to. So not only will these checks save time but you can look at the progress you’re making with your current strategies and change them accordingly.

Selecting the right software is very important. You wouldn’t want to invest in cheap software and bungle up your business, would you? In that case look for a cost effective way of checking your page rank and though the investment might seem quite an amount in the beginning the perfect reports it generates could help you make the required changes in your site optimization.

Something that more or less every retail based business in existence needs to understand is that nowadays people are hard pressed for time and money, and so if they can pick up what they need from an online store rather than have to go out to the shop and physically buy it, then they will usually choose the online option, and so having a presence on the web for your business has never been more important.

Best SEO Practices

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

The question that this article will be tackling is why are most websites in existence all clamoring to get the best in search engine optimization? The key reason is obviously, to attract as much web traffic as possible to try and generate more online business, and therefore getting into the top few results positions of a search term is the key aim for every business that has a presence online.

In order to get their pages moved up in the rankings for their chosen keywords, a few sites stuff their pages with these keywords in the hope that the search engines will pick up on it and rank them higher. This is however, not considered to be ethical practice and if it is picked up on by the search engines, they will penalise the site by removing it completely from the search results.

When the web designers use rightful ways and means to climb up the search engine ranks ladder it is said that they have adopted white hat SEO techniques and the otherwise ones are referred to as black hat SEO techniques. When white hat techniques are made an integral part of web designing, getting indexed in the major search engines is no difficult task. Good techniques will give a longer life to the website and prove to be profitable in the long term, whereas the black hat SEO techniques though might prove to be good in the short term might be very dangerous when long term is considered.

SEO is an ever evolving field, and the standards set by the major search engines keep changing from time to time. Hence, it becomes important here to understand one thing clearly that search engine optimization is not a one-time solution.

Website owners and SEO operatives will have to be aware of what techniques the search engines are using to rank sites, and incorporate what they want to see into their own sites in order to be picked up and ranked by the search engines.

Reload this Page How To Get 100% Free Advertising On Google

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Did you know you can get ranked number 1 on Google for free using Google Local Business Center and Google Maps?
Google Local helps your advertisements show up in Google searches that are made in close proximity to your business which will help you get more traffic, leads and sales.

Let’s use Just Creative Design as an example; if someone who lives around Newcastle (where I freelance from) searches for ‘graphic designer newcastle’ my business comes up first in the local search results of which you can see in the image above and that position is 100% free through the use of Google Local.
In the image below you can see the free local google listing again but this time you can also see my paid advertising at the top (highlighted in yellow) which I have paid for through Google Adwords. I use Google Adwords to ensure that I get clicked first no matter what.
Anyway, keep reading to find out how to get to number 1 on google for free.

What You Need To Get Free Advertising On Google

Before you jump in and get your free advertising on Google you will need to have these things:

An account with Google.
A short description of your business for when a user clicks on your business name.
The phone number(s), addresses and any other contact information you want to advertise. Remember that the phone number will show up on the results page.
A logo and/or image(s) of your business and products.
How To Get Free Advertising On Google

Go to www.google.com/local and search for your business to verify that it is not already listed.
Go back to www.google.com/local and click “Put your business on Google Maps” found in the left side bar.
Follow the simple steps provided by Google. You will be asked to verify your business by phone or SMS. A good tip is to to not put your full address into Google but rather the largest town in your area. For example I live about 20 minutes outside of Newcastle in suburbia and not as many people would search for ‘graphic designer cardiff’ as they would ‘graphic designer newcastle’. I also do not want to show my home address on Google Maps as I freelance from home so this is a good way around it.
Come back in a few weeks and see if your listing is up. My listing took about 3 weeks to show up and started off in position D and somehow moved to position A… I am not sure how this is controlled but I won’t complain.
Well there we have it, you can now get free advertising on Google. You can track and edit your listing by going back to the Google Local page. It is possible also to use classified ads.

Further Tips

You can also offer coupon codes on your Google Local listing – use this to your advantage!
You can also add your products to Google Base, the product search engine.
If you live in North America, submit your site for free to True Local, the leading local search engine

Google Trustfull website conditions

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Here I wrote an article about the definition of Trust website. Not that these statements cannot be 100% as Google algorithm knows only the Google.

1. Domain Zone. By observing many webmasters, Google pays preference domains in area .edu. These sites of various universities, institutes and other organizations related to education. Why is this happening to understand not wonder. Google Founders Brin and Page were students. Google was born at the university. Education is an important part of the life of any normal American. Therefore, sites that are related to education, have an advantage in Google. I found this advantage are not only sites with a first-level domain. Edu, as well as local. Edu.au,. Edu.uk,. Edu.de and others, the truth only in their geographic areas.
2. Age of the website. The old site has superiority over the new. How to determine the age of the site? According to the Whois domain of Copyright, listed on the site, according to information posted on the site, its relevance, etc.
3. Age of the domain. What is the domain over, the better. Determine its age, just on the Whois.
4. History Domain. If the domain were not observed suspicious websites content, this is just an additional plus.
5. Number of pages in the index. The more pages to index your site the better.
6. The uniqueness of the site content. Of course, unique content is much better than kopipast. Therefore, sites with unique content, have the upper hand over the bad sinonimizirovannym or stolen content. Therefore, Web 2.0 sites are very well indexed and ranked – unique content written by users.
7. The frequency of updating the site. The more your site is updated home page, added more than news, more often than new subdivisions – the better. This suggests that the site is not abandoned by the operator, but is constantly evolving.
8. Number of unique visitors to the site. Web site with a large attendance of more like search engines. Most visitors said that the site visitor.
9. The time that visitors spend on the site. If a person pobyl at 2 seconds and then closed the page, it says that the site is not a person of interest. Google records the visitor’s stay on the site and on the basis of this, too, makes its findings. Therefore, some craftsmen do with delay redirect doorway.
10. Page Rang (PR). There was much controversy regarding the influence of PR on the Trust website. All disputes can be completed in one sentence – from top sites are usually a big PR. This must mean something.
11. Alexa Rank. Indicator Alexa necessarily irrelevant to Google. See for yourself which sites are in first place on the Alexa Rank.
12. The availability of a site in the well-known search engines + DMOZ. If the site is not indexed in Google, which it can be trust? Perhaps, Google is also indexing your site looks in other search engines. Directory DMOZ has always been a measure of quality, so the presence of the site is also of great importance.
13. Number of links on the site. The more other sites link to your site, the better, so it is important and interesting. Its content is in demand.
14. Quality links on the site. If the site is referred to news portals, sites of large companies, well-known bloggers – this is an additional plus. If you refer to the Chinese guest created blogs yesterday – it will not be positive.
15. Quality links from the site. Trust site should not refer to sites with viruses, adalt-materials sites that violate U.S. law. If there are such links, trust becomes the site in question.
16. The lack of viruses on the site. To trust the site can not be Trojans, sploitov etc.
17. Stable fast hosting. It is desirable that on IP, which is now in your site, in the past was not dorveev, viruses, adalt-materials, etc. It is also very important the speed of response of hosting, the higher the ping the better.
18. The physical location of servers. If the site is aimed at an audience from the United States, it must be hosted in the United States, not in Nicaragua.
19. Use of the name brand in the domain name. If the domain has a brand – it is a further plus – more likely this site will be of interest to users, so it is interesting to Google.
20. The presence of keywords in the domain name. If the domain consists of a keyword – it is only plus. The only thing is to avoid, because it names the type of best-buy-auto-online-now.com, these domains are spammer.

How Google AdSense sees “click spam” and fake clicks

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

How Google Ad Sense calculates cheated clicks:

First is the IP address and geographical location. If you click on the advertisement will have to go with an IP address from which you go at least once in your account – you are a cheater, immediately and irrevocably!

Secondly. More advanced users use dynamic IP! Yes, disconnect from the Internet, and join again, you change your IP, but Google for each click computer places on your computer Cookies.

Third – your modem or router, or LAN-card with your number (ID, Hardware address, Mac-address) – this is for Google to find how criminalists – fingerprints at the crime scene.

In the fourth “underlined” click. You do not need to study philosophy in order to understand what should be the visitor of your site or blog that clicks on an advertisement as soon as looked at the site without reading it. Or click on the advertisement, and soon came back. And in general, why “clicker” has got to your blog or website for direct contact, rather than on the search query or links from another site?

The fifth – a clear violation of Google Ad Sense. “Make money by clicking on the ads” – even if you do not post this text directly sooner or later Google will find it. Again ban again no money.

Sixth – your top resource. If your blog or website is new and there are no links on the Internet, your site is not to issue a search request, and the number of visitors is very little – it is very suspicious.

Seven – Spies around you – Gmail, Google Toolbar, Blogger, Google Talk, Google Sitemap, Google Desktop, Google Earth, Google Calendar, Google Search, Feed burner, and many others…

If you read everything carefully, you probably have noticed that you can be banned even if you are crystal clear – you do not do fake click, but by working with your Gmail mailbox at their workplace (or in Internet cafes). Be careful!

Good luck, and the big check from Google and if you are doing your business fair then probably you won’t get banned by Google!

Little Google Secrets or where to start optimizing your site

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

For many young websites it is enough to add the site via a special form (add url) or create a sitemap (sitemap.xml). Undoubtedly both of these methods are effective, but only as a subsidiary. The main way to tell GoogleBot on the emergence of something new in the network is to have External links to resources. Method that works quickly enough is to add page URL to social bookmarks, adding press releases, links to Trust resources (resources with a high level of confidence) sites – for instance news websites.

Another important factor is the number of technical issues that relate to accessibility. Very often, long a problem with hosting or a domain that you forgot to renew, can play you bad joke. This is especially true for Google.

Now a few words about what is important for Google to see on the page. And while the formula for ranking the more than 100 different criteria is called the 5 basic.

1. Keywords that are used in the header between the tags <title>.

2. Keywords that are used in the sub between the tags <h1>, <h2>, … and the first paragraph of the text on the page.

3. Keywords that are used to link (Anchor), as well as on your other sites.

4. PR (Page Rank) of your site. This figure shows the number and quality of external links to your site.

5. Number of pages with at least 250 words of relevant content. (and the more of these pages, the better).

Attention should be made also to meta-tag <description>, its contents can be included in the description of your site. Meta-tag <keywords> is ignored by Google. The content of alt tags is involved in the search for images.

Free and Easy Link Building Tips

Blog-Based Link Building

One way to get natural links back to your website is by setting up a blog for your company. Make sure you network online with other blogs that complement yours. If you share industry news and have useful and relevant content, you’ll attract links. Reference other bloggers in your content and link to other blogs in your industry.

For blogs, content is extremely important. Every time you add words to your blog or website, you are presenting yourself to a potentially huge audience. How does your blog’s content reflect your company? This content could be the page that carries your company’s name around the Internet world. Cheap content is just that – cheap. Create content that people want to read and that will make them come back again and again.

Reviewing products and services and posting those reviews on other sites is another way to build links. Your honest evaluations and smart opinions can also build your reputation as an expert in your field.

Link Building with Social Media

Another way to build natural links to your website is through social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace and Twitter. These sites allow you to set up a user profile where you can add information about you and your company including a link to your website.

Some sites, Facebook for example, also have a way to promote your business with a page, ad or group. Just keep in mind that there are good ways and bad ways to promote your business on social sites and you should observe proper etiquette when you do.
