Directory Submission Explained

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

If you are looking for a way to efficiently promote your website then there is no better method than creating back links. To be able to do that easily, you would need to submit your website to the various online directories. Just ask any professional SEO consultant and they would inform you that these online directories are an essential part of their strategies when it comes to website promotion. Directory submissions are not just a great way to create links; they can also help guarantee that you get targeted traffic to your site by simply placing your website under the right category. Easy, right? Well, to be truly successful at maximizing the potential of directory submissions, you should be able to submit your website to as many directories as you can. Doing so would prove to be quite tedious and time-consuming. But you need not fret because there is a method which you can use in order to make things easier for you. Using an automated directory submission software would not only cut the time it takes in half but it would also help you by pass some of the more difficult parts of submitting your website to a directory.

The thing with these directories is that most of them have their own sets of regulations that need to be followed in order for your website to get approved and added to their lists. They are edited by humans so you can expect them to be really meticulous when it comes to making sure that every submission is up to standard. Through automatic directory submission software, you would be able to prevent making common errors such as typos and lengthy descriptions which are often the basis for rejection. It can also help you add your website to hundreds of directories within a very short period of time thus allowing you to focus on the other aspects of your website promotion and not get you stuck on submitting on directories alone. So go on and give it a try, who knows? Getting to automate directory submission might be the improvement you’ve been hoping for.

SEO: Outsource or DIY?

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Whether you know it or not, SEO can be a time consuming process, especially if you involve yourself in all aspects of the process itself. So the question I am going to put forth in this article is a simple one. When doing SEO for your site, should you do it yourself or should you outsource the work? Well, the answer I’m going to give you just might surprise you. Keep on reading to find out just how I feel about this subject.

I will be the first to admit that I am no SEO expert…not by a long shot. However, I do know all the basics and can get a site up the SERPs pretty quickly, if not in record time. I do know that to do everything you need to do to properly SEO your site, it is a lot of work and very time consuming. Let me give you one example of what I’m talking about. Let’s tackle social bookmarking.

For starters, most people go about doing this all wrong. See, your typical marketer will go to a social bookmarking site, like Digg, and only bookmark his own sites. This is not the way to get the most juice out of your efforts. You need to actually become a part of the community, which means filling in ALL your details and actually bookmarking other things of interest that are NOT your own site. In fact, you should bookmark more things that AREN’T your own site than your site itself. THAT is how to properly use social bookmarking.

Unfortunately, this is VERY time consuming as you can imagine, especially since you should be doing this for a minimum of 25 sites. I recommend between 50 and 100. Think about how much time this takes. It’s almost mind numbing. So you would therefore think that I would immediately recommend that you outsource things like this. Well, that’s where you’d be WRONG…at least not to start. But why? Why am I suggesting that you do this yourself?

By doing this yourself, you actually learn the process and understand it. That way, if down the road you decide to outsource, you can tell the person exactly what you want done and how. Sometimes by leaving things in the hands of an the person you hire, you can end up getting banned from these sites because they end up doing nothing but spamming the bookmarking sites. That’s why, something like this, you want to be hands on…at least at the start.

Each aspect of SEO needs to be taken on a case by case basis. Some things are simple enough that they can be outsourced with very little chance of a screw up. But even those items should be done by you at first so that you understand how they work. This way, if the person you outsource to fouls things up, you’ll know.

Anyway, there you have it. Outsourcing is not a cut and dried proposition for SEO. But in any case, I do recommend that you learn to do it yourself FIRST.

It will save you a lot of grief down the road.

2. The number of websites linking to you

3. Make it your business to know the page ranks of the sites linked to you

4. Be aware of the page title of those linked sites

9. Do you know whether Google deems this linked site as an authority site?

There are strategy techniques that you can incorporate for off page optimization. The following are some of them

If you want to be popular with Google and achieve a good page rank, then you must build good links. This is a technique that drastically enhances off page optimization. It is not a step that you want to overlook.

Social Networking is a professional term for word of mouth advertising. It means just that. You get involved in blogs, chat rooms or any other public outlet that have the same interests as you do. These are not blatant advertising venues, but there are subtle ways to get across what your website is all about. These are online social communities such as You Tube, Myspace and Orkut.

Directory Listings: Submission of the website to the directories will definitely enhance the generation of the traffic and link popularity of the particular website. Directories include list of websites that are meticulously checked. The directories are differentiated into several relevant subject categories that provide information to the visitors. Web directories are human edited and are much smaller than the search engine database.

Article Distribution: Article distribution is the modern trend of off-page optimization. An article with relevant keyword is written and the uniform resource locator of the self-owned website is placed at the end of article. Thus when the article is submitted in the popular article websites the traffic is generated to the self-owned website. Within less time, the website owner will receive potential buyers in the effective manner.

Remember to use pertinent keywords in your anchor text as well. This is the text that you use in your link backs.

When a search query is made the search engine will return with a list of relevant sites. Wherever your site appears in this list constitutes the Search Engine Ranking Position. (SERP). The information that will be provided to you as a result of your search is the page, titles, and the keywords are applicable with a brief description of the site.

SEO An Hour A Day: Small Tasks That Make A Big Difference

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

A lot of work goes into improving a website’s rank on search engines, and most of the tasks that are performed to realize that goal take a lot of time and a lot of energy. Along with those big time consuming tasks, though, there are a few small, quick things that can be done that can go a long way toward getting your site to the top. These tasks are ongoing, and can be accomplished within an hour a day.

All of these tasks actually deal with ‘off the page’ factors, and focus primarily on inbound links and generating traffic. Since that’s the goal of all SEO campaigns, these tasks are a natural fit into any plan to reach it.

One of these ‘hour a day’ tasks is contacting other websites requesting inbound links. In return, there could be some form of payment negotiated or you could return the favor, linking their site from yours. While link swapping can be useful, it should be known that they can have a negative effect if overused. This is thanks to spammers abusing this method of traffic generation in the early days of the Internet. Trading links with a site known by search engines can also have a negative impact on your SEO efforts, but such sites are usually very easy to recognize. As long as you pay attention to who you’re dealing with, this potential pitfall can be easily avoided.

It is also worth mentioning that sites related to your field of business or study linking to your site. As Google and other search engines interpret this as a ‘vote of confidence’ by the site creating the link, the search engines will rank you site that much higher that much faster. Sites that have little relation to yours creating an inbound link is not quite as helpful, though such links cannot hurt your site.

Having your website listed in several directories is also a good idea, as directory links can increase traffic and raise you search engine rank fairly quickly. With directories available on the Web for every subject imaginable today, there is no shortage of potential inbound links you can generate with a little effort an hour a day.

Getting blogs to link to your website is also a task that can be performed briefly each day. This task, like the others mentioned above, can bring rich reward – even more so if the blog regularly covers subjects related to your website.

The performance of these tasks can fit into any schedule, and the benefits such tasks can yield are very much worth the hour you should spend in doing them. Not only are such tasks an efficient use of time (and therefore money), but the continuing positive results can give you the motivation to continue working on your personal site, or make holding your job easier if you are working on a client’s site.

SEO Optimization Tips And Strategies

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

There are several definitions of the term “search engine optimization” or “SEO”, because it is often replaced with other terms such as “internet marketing” “web marketing” and “search engine marketing”. SEO can be defined as a process that involves all the activities performed in order to increase a website’s position in search engines for a particular keyword or a combination of keywords. But what exactly involves SEO optimization?

A search engine tries to determine what you are searching when you type a word or a certain phrase, by using specific algorithms. The purpose of a search engine is to deliver relevant search results for the largest possible number of people. Search engines do this by creating an algorithm. This process involves several factors, such as text content, titles, keywords, etc.

Unlike search engines, web directories are organized are human editors. Their role is to analyze your website, checking its relevance, rank, popularity, etc. As a result, the website will be classified on certain criteria. Yahoo and MSN use web directories, being considered hybrid search engines.

Search engines check the tags included in title, the titles and the first two paragraphs to see if they match your keywords. Keywords are the cornerstone of every SEO campaign. It’s important to maintain a proper frequency of keywords. This frequency varies from site to site depending on many external factors.

A SEO campaign can be divided into 7 basic phases: identifying keywords, website analysis, page optimization, link building, website submission in search engines and web directories, analysis and reports.

SEO generates more sales for most companies than any other method of advertising.

Yahoo Making Some Changes

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Last year the information on Yahoo was all about them being bought out by someone like Microsoft, but it seems they are holding fast as they are no longer looking like a company to be bought up.  Instead Yahoo has announced they are going to make some changes that might help website developers.  The first change is going to be some acquisitions by Yahoo of some social media sites.

Yahoo Chief Technology Officer stated that while Google has won the search game, they are looking to overtake Google when it comes to social networking and media sites.  They want to have an interface with a new style that isn’t ugly with advertisements, and instead is like a Facebook style with social features.  Yahoo has certainly always had the ability to show news, search tools, and more all on one page; now they are going to add more.  They are looking to acquire some social networking companies before the year is over.  They have not announced what companies these might be though, so Twitter may be joining Yahoo.

Another option for change has been to Yahoo Web Analytics.  For the last 9 months Yahoo has been working on some changes for their ecommerce customers.  The tool is now going to be free for more advertisers, which is good news for anyone trying to create an SEO ad to spur more traffic to their site.  The idea of the new software came from purchasing the IndexTools.  IndexTools is an analytical package that allows you to get more information regarding what is being searched for.  CMS Watch even states that Yahoo’s tool has exceeded that of Google Analytics in several areas.  For you this means you might want to start using both tools to get the best of both worlds, since Yahoo has now made theirs available and free.

For advertisers it is a great tool to begin using.  You want to have the best when it comes to your online ads so that your site gets traffic.  It is more than just finding the right places to advertise and the right keywords.  You also want to make sure that you are able to get the target audience you want.  The Yahoo analytics tool can help point you in the right direction as you are creating the new ads.

The changes Yahoo is making will definitely make it easier on you.
