Nicnamed “Rafa” Rafael Nadal has set many of the world’s “youngest” tennis playing records. This young man rose through the ranks of the professional tennis circuit so quickly that it has quite literally been like a “whirlwind’. He has enjoyed an extraordinary amount of wins, and this brief Rafael Nadal biography, takes us through just a few of these.

Reaching the pinnacle of his success as the number two tennis player in the world seems to have come very easily to Rafael Nadal. His clay-court performance has seen sixty consecutive wins, which is a magnificent achievement.

Born on 3 June 1986 in Manacor, Majorca, Spain, he has a sporting background. His uncle Miguel Angel Nadal played professional football when he was only 15 years of age and played for F. C. Barcelona between 1986 and 2001.

This young man was also only the tender age of 15 when he won his first ATP in Mallorca. The person he played to win this title was Ramon Delgado, and this win ensured that Rafa became the 9th player in an ATP during the “Open” era to win the Championship before he was 16 years of age. The following year he was ranked in the top 100 best tennis players in the world and was the second youngest player to achieve this remarkable feat.

Making a debut at Wimbledon aged 16 years in 2003, he managed to reach the 3rd round. No tennis player since Boris Becker had done this. His meteoric rise to fame continued and by 2005 saw him ranked the 5th best tennis singles player, making him the youngest player to make it into the top ten since Andrei Medvedev.

He is perhaps best known for being the winner of the French Open on four consecutive occasions. Pete Sampras won the US Open aged 19 and Rafa was the first teenager to achieve this again. He is also the arch opponent of Roger Federer, fourth youngest Roland Garros champion, as well as the 7th player in the history of the Grand Slam era to win one of these competitions on their first appearance.
