Acer 7738g Laptop

So as my asus c90s was dead and warranty said that will not repair it I had to choose something in very short time. And bought this toy – acer 7738g. My demands were very simple – Core 2 duo of course at least t6400, Geforce GT 130m as a must, 4Gb preferably ddr3, high resolution – width starting with 1400px – screen size does not matter as I will not be bringing this machine with me very often – I have small HP mini 2133. Must be Vista.

What is good with this laptop is that is supports two hard drives. And you can put one more hdd not instead of dvd-writter but in addition to it :) So in standart I have 320Gb and probably will buy 500gb 7200rpm secondary hard drive. Btw standart one is 320gb and is 5400rpm.  Comparing to c90s asus this one has very high quality display. Also I should mention very good speaker quality. It says it has small subwoofer – I don’t know if it is true but sound is good.

First things I tried – installed several games that had problems on c90s – Overlord 2 and Vin Diesel Wheelman – they work perfectly. Though the processor is weaker than on my previous c90s – I had 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo Extreme desktop processor, but in overall performance this machine is much much better. I am planning to try videi editing in some time – I will leave some comments :)

  1. I also bought this model 2 weeks ago. For a price of $1050 this is amazing model!

I’m going to buy this one too, but I’m still searching for more reviews about it. What about overheating? How “hot” does this notebook become after some hours of e.g. playing?
    thx

I do not overheat :) I has cooler but as I hear it starts working only sometimes. I think with heating this laptop is good.

    Some points I don’t like:
    1. touch buttons to control sound player – actually I don’t need them.
    2. parts to connect secondary hdd – i am STILL waiting for them to arrive.

but overall notebook is very good. very high quality display. good design and full size keyboard :)

I am going to write one more review next week with my experience with this laptop during this time.

Well my Acer 7738G is currently power-battering but after first 1.5 hours of working I was happy to install WinXP sp3 and some software I intend to work with.

    First good things:

    - excellent design
    - faster gfx card
    - more memory

    Bad things:

    - I here have also Acer Travelmate 7530 and looking at the design – it is PERFECT. Keyboard layout, response, everything is fantastic! But when compare my Travelmate’s 17″ with new Aspire 7738G 17.3″ – windows XP text is for one inch smaller [as monitor is wider], and this was first thing I didn`t like.

    - Keyboard has smaller cursor keys and has no € and $ keys above them as I used to work with Travelmate.

    - Laptop texture is very clean and also keyboard. I would prefer textured material as typing with fingers won`t leave any trace then. When you type and touch [open/close case] on Aspire – it looks like you type on a glass! So after several minutes laptop will look dirty :( :( :(

    - Sound has MUCH MUCH lower volume if compare it with Travelmate. I play the same song in Renoise tracker on both laptops – Travelmate has much louder sound while Aspire has very tiny, like old transistor. I guess I have not been installed sound drivers properly. I will check tomorrow.

    - Camera CrystalEye software didn`t want to start so I can’t see how quality is camera. But it writes it is much better than Travelmate. I will check tomorrow when reinstall drivers

    - Why driver installation is not prepared for this model only? It has whole bunch of software usable and non usable for my model :(
